This is what landrover is all about, their off road capabilities are second to none! and it’s reign lasted for 68 years. The defender was and is instantly recognisable throughout that period, a time that has seen farmers, emergency services and the horsing community use the excellent 4 x 4 get to places other vehicles simply can not.

Matt Watson at Auto Express recently drove a fleet of Defenders here is what he had to say:

To mark the end of the Land Rover Defender, we drove a fleet of all the models on the island where it was conceived

Icon. It’s an overused term in the automotive lexicon. Really, there are only a handful of vehicles that warrant such praise – and the Land Rover Defender and its ancestors are among the worthy few.

This all-purpose 4×4 originally designed for post-war farmers has gone on to become a symbol of British ingenuity, engineering and craftsmanship – and even the British psyche. Love the defender or hate it you cant deny that it has been a icon of the UK’s motor industry and one that will be cherished by those that are fortunate to still own one.

What’s new for the discontinued Land Rover Defender

Since the decision to discontinue the much respected and reveared Land Rover Defender there was a steady stream of interested parties looking at getting their hands on one of the last car to be made at the Solihull plant. Now the last car has leafted the production line that interst has turned to the seconhand market for Land Rover used cars for sale in Kent in publication such as autotrader with prices increasing as much as 30% above previous secondhand prices.

Land Rover Defender thefts up by 69% as values rise

Discontinued off-roader is being stolen and exported abroad at an alarming rate; owners encouraged to beef up security

The Land Rover Defender has become a target for thieves now production has ended, with claims of stolen cars increasing by 69% in North Yorkshire. The figures, which were released by insurance company NFU Mutual, compare 2014 with 2015, when claims for Defenders increased by 8%. This brought the total claims cost to NFU Mutaul up to £1.8-million. you can read the full article here

It would seem that without real contender to replace the Defender then it would see that the prices can only remain firm and resulting in continuing thefts…. A sad way for such a iconic car to be remebered for.
